Frequently Asked Questions
Everlasting Email is a service that lets you write heartfelt messages to be delivered to your loved ones at a future time. Whether it's a birthday greeting years from now, words of comfort after you're gone, or a message for a special milestone, Everlasting Email ensures your words reach the right people at the right time.
After signing up, start by creating an occasion from your dashboard — the moment your message is for — and choose how it's delivered (on a date, a two-person code, or Auto-Delivery). Then write your message inside it, add your recipients, and choose a template. You can save your progress and come back anytime.
Absolutely. Your messages are protected with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS encryption in transit. Our infrastructure runs on AWS, which maintains industry-standard security certifications including SOC 2 and ISO 27001. Only your chosen recipients will ever see your messages, and only when the delivery conditions are met.
Messages can be protected by a delivery method that requires two people to enter a code. You receive a unique two-part delivery code and choose who holds each part — for example your lawyer and your executor, or split between your children. Both parts must be entered together for the messages to be released, so no single person can release them alone. When the time comes, the two code holders combine their parts on our website. With extra-secure mode the code is shown only once and is never stored, so keep it safe; in standard mode we store it securely for you.
With extra-secure mode (zero-knowledge encryption), we never store your delivery codes — they're shown once when generated and cannot be retrieved, not even by us. This provides maximum privacy but means if you lose the codes, they cannot be recovered. Standard mode stores codes securely so you can view them again.
Available on every plan, scheduled delivery lets you set a specific date for your messages to be sent automatically. Each scheduled message uses one scheduled-message credit, which anyone can buy in Billing — Gold and Premium include some free. Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or future milestones. Credits are a one-off purchase and never expire — once a message is scheduled it will send on its date even if your plan lapses or you downgrade; only deleting your account removes it. You can modify or cancel anytime before the scheduled date.
Available on Gold and Premium plans, Auto-Delivery automatically delivers your messages if you don't check in within your set interval. This ensures delivery even if no one has your delivery code. You'll receive reminders before any action is taken. We remind you by email 7, 3, and 1 day before your deadline — plus an SMS on the final day if your phone is verified — so a single missed notification won't release your messages.
Plenty. As your check-in deadline approaches, we send reminders 7 days, 3 days, and 1 day before it. Every reminder goes out by email, and if you've turned on SMS reminders and verified your phone number, we also text you on the final day as an urgent last-minute alert. A single missed notification won't release your messages — and checking in from any reminder resets the clock. (Reminders that fall outside your chosen check-in interval are simply skipped — for example, a 7-day interval won't include the 7-day reminder.)
Yes — Auto-Delivery is a dead man's switch for your messages: you check in at an interval you choose (7 to 90 days), and if check-ins stop, your messages are delivered. Unlike a classic dead man's switch, you can require your Trusted Contact to confirm before anything sends, so a missed check-in alone never triggers delivery by accident.
We provide a 180-day (~6 month) grace period after expiration. During this time, your messages remain safe and every delivery method keeps working - delivery codes still release, Auto-Delivery still sends if check-ins stop, and scheduled messages still send - your loved ones will receive their messages. You simply cannot create new messages or edit existing ones until you extend your plan. Scheduled messages you've purchased will be delivered on their set dates even after your plan expires. The only exception is deleting your account, which permanently removes them.
They're safe. Scheduled messages you've already set up will be delivered on their set dates even if you downgrade or let your plan lapse — your subscription only affects creating and editing messages, never the ones you've already scheduled. If your plan is downgraded or your grace period expires, only the delivery methods that are part of your plan (such as the two-person code and Auto-Delivery) are removed; your scheduled messages remain safe because they were purchased separately. The one exception is deleting your account, which permanently removes everything, including scheduled messages — so if you simply want to stop paying, downgrade or let your plan lapse rather than deleting your account.
You can upgrade at any time and your new plan starts immediately. To switch to a lower tier, simply choose a different plan when your current plan expires.
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through our secure payment provider, Stripe. All payments are processed securely and we never store your card details.
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all paid plans. If you're not satisfied, contact us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.
Yes, you can edit your messages anytime before they're delivered. Once a message has been activated and sent, it cannot be modified.
Recipients receive a beautifully formatted email with your message and your chosen template design. If you've added photos or videos, recipients get a link to view them in a secure gallery or video player (depending on your plan).
Because they don't depend on you being here to send them. Each occasion is delivered either automatically or by people you appoint — a two-person code is released by the two people you chose, Auto-Delivery sends your messages if you stop checking in, and an 'on a date' occasion sends on its date. Once messages go out, the people who released a code can see when each one is delivered and opened, so someone you trust confirms your words arrived. Your Trusted Contact, meanwhile, keeps your account active and can release your Auto-Delivery messages for you. None of them can ever read what your messages say — so your words stay private right up until they reach the people they're for.
You can update recipient email addresses anytime before a message is delivered. Since messages may be delivered when you're no longer able to make changes, we recommend periodically reviewing your recipients and keeping their contact details current.
A Trusted Contact is someone you designate to help manage your Everlasting Email account if you become mentally or physically incapacitated. They can extend your plan, view account status, and see code holder information - but they cannot read your messages, see message subjects, or access delivery codes. This feature is available on Essentials, Gold, and Premium plans.
Your Trusted Contact can: extend your plan to keep your account active, view your account status and plan expiry date, see how many messages you have prepared, view code holder names for activation purposes, and receive alerts when your plan is expiring. They have their own login and can manage their own password.
Your Trusted Contact cannot: read or edit your message content, see message subjects or recipient details (unless you enable this), access or view delivery codes, delete messages or your account, or cancel your plan. Your private messages remain completely private.
Only the recipients you designate can read your messages, and only after the messages are released. Our staff do not access the content of your messages in the normal course of operations. With extra-secure mode enabled, even we cannot see your delivery codes.
When you delete your account, all your data is permanently deleted from our systems, including messages, videos, photos, file attachments, recipients, delivery codes, Auto-Delivery settings, and trusted contact settings. Any scheduled messages are deleted too and will no longer be sent. Financial records (invoices) are retained in anonymized form for 5 years as required by Australian tax law. This action cannot be undone.
Everlasting Email is built to run on minimal resources. When the system isn't actively delivering messages, it costs almost nothing to operate. That keeps our prices low, our environmental footprint small, and means we can keep operating reliably for a very long time — whether we're serving a hundred families or a hundred thousand.
