Schedule an Email Years Into the Future

For the birthday, the wedding day, or the ordinary Tuesday you know you will miss.

What does it mean to schedule an email for a future date?

Scheduling an email for a future date means writing it now and choosing the day it should arrive — next month, next decade, or a birthday that has not happened yet. The message is stored until then and delivered on the date you picked, without you having to do anything else. Everlasting Email is built for the long end of that range: deliveries measured in years, not hours.

That changes what you can write. A message for tomorrow is a reminder. A message for 2044 is a letter.

What do people schedule years ahead?

🎂

An 18th or 21st birthday

A letter written while they are small, opened on the morning they are grown. Parents often write one a year and set them all at once.

💍

A wedding day

Something to be read before they walk out the door, from a parent or grandparent who wants to be part of the day whether or not they are there.

🎓

A graduation or a first job

The advice you would give at the moment it is actually useful, rather than at fifteen when nobody is listening.

💌

Anniversaries after you are gone

A note to a partner on the date that will be hardest, arriving in the years when other people have stopped mentioning it.

How is this different from scheduling an email in Gmail?

Gmail's Schedule Send, Outlook and tools like Boomerang are built for next Tuesday morning. Their practical horizon is weeks or months, the pending message sits in your own outbox, and it depends on your account staying open, your password staying current, and your provider keeping the feature. If your account is closed or memorialised, the scheduled mail goes with it.

Everlasting Email is built for the other end of the timescale. Your message is stored with us rather than in your mailbox, so it survives a change of email provider — and it survives you. There is no cap of a few months, video and photos are part of the message rather than attachments squeezed under a size limit, and if the recipient's address changes you can update it right up to the send date.

What makes a delivery decades away actually arrive?

Funded, not hoped for

Date deliveries are paid for when you set them up and stay active indefinitely. A message waiting twenty years is not relying on next year's sales.

Protected if your plan lapses

A scheduled delivery you have already set up still goes out on its date even if you downgrade or let your subscription expire. Only deleting your account stops it.

Stored encrypted, in more than one place

Message text, video and photos are encrypted at rest and in transit, and held redundantly across data centres rather than on a single machine.

Cheap to wait

The service runs on serverless infrastructure, so a message that is simply waiting costs almost nothing to keep. That is what makes a long wait sustainable instead of just a promise.

Yours until it sends

You can rewrite the message, swap the video, change the recipient's address, move the date or cancel it entirely at any point before delivery.

Frequently asked questions

How far in the future can I schedule an email?

Decades. There is no practical cap in the product — people set dates for a child's 18th and 21st birthdays, a 25th wedding anniversary, and further out again. The real limit is how long the service runs, which is why we built it to cost almost nothing while messages are only waiting.

Will it still send if I have passed away?

Yes. A date delivery is not tied to you being alive or logging in. Once it is set up it goes out on its date regardless, which is exactly why people use it for milestones they know they will not see. If you would rather a message send because you have died than on a fixed date, Auto-Delivery or a two-person delivery code is the better fit.

Can I edit it before it sends?

Yes, at any time before the delivery date. You can rewrite the message, swap the video, add photos, change recipients or move the date. Once it has sent it is out of your hands, the same as any other email.

What if the recipient's email address changes?

Update it in your dashboard. For a message twenty years out that is worth a periodic check, and reviewing recipients whenever you renew is a good habit. For a child too young to have an address, many people send to a parent's address and change it later, or add a second recipient as a backstop.

Can I attach a video?

Yes. You can record a video straight from your browser or upload one, and add photos and file attachments alongside the text, depending on your plan. For a message opening in fifteen years, a recording of your voice tends to matter more than anything you can write.

How much does a scheduled message cost?

Everlasting Email starts free with one message, and paid plans begin at a low yearly price. Date-based deliveries are purchased individually and then stay active indefinitely, with no ongoing subscription required to keep them. Gold and Premium plans include some at no extra cost. The pricing page has the current numbers.
